Rock your mac…

by Daniel

So you love your mac right? So do I.

That said, there are some things that I wish I could do more easily. I’ve been doing some research into some great apps and plugins to revolutionise your mac, so I thought I’d do a post on some of them.

Safari Plugins

You can’t go past these to enhance your Safari experience.

Glims

A fantastic plugin to enhance safari. It ads a whole host of features including Search suggestions, improved bookmarks management and adding thumbnails to your Google results.

Grease Kit

Grease Kit, as the name might suggest, is a great to allow you to implement UserScripts in safari. These userscripts can, in turn change the way that you interact with the web.

Examples include changing how you view or interact with YouTube or Facebook and a variety of other sites.

You can search through thousands of “UserScripts” at Userscripts.org or there are numerous guides to narrow the options down a little. Have a look at:

System Tools

Appfresh

Finally! A way to manage all the hundreds of applications I have on my machine.

AppFresh will audit your machine, keep track of all the apps you use and give you a status of their current version.

This is new to me – I’m currently testing it, so I’ll be sure to let you know how it goes.

PreferenceCleaner

A useful tool for getting rid of all the defunct preference files that we seem to accumulate. Also helps to weed out corrupt preferences that can cause problems. (Like in Mess Office).

Carbon Copy Cloner

I use this utility ALL the time. It’s a great tool for backing up and/or migrating the ENTIRE contents of your mac HDD to another disk.
